Welcome to our class blog!

Welcome to our class blog.  I hope that you find this venue for publishing your writing useful and fun.  Please visit each other’s blogs and leave helpful, appropriate comments often.  The exchange of ideas is important!

Be sure to check the assignment pages regularly!  They are listed on the right side of the page.

Today, October 16th in class…

Refer to the assignment pages on the right of this home page and do Assignment #7.  Either use earphones or have the volume turned up so that you can hear the amazing sounds!  After you have created your own post, be sure to visit the blogs of several of your peers and comment them.  Also, you can go back and view everyone’s word part projects again and comment them if you have not already done so.

Have fun!

Posting a YouTube Video on Your Blog

First, go to YouTube and get the URL of your video.  (If you search YouTube video for debbieroper, you will find your word-part video posted there.  Click on your video and it will show in the main window.)  When you have your video showing, go up to the address bar and copy the entire address (the URL).  Then come back to your blog.  Create a new post.  Be sure to give it a title.  In the body of the post, type the name of your video.  Highlight it.  Click on the linked chain graphic in the tool bar where you are typing your post.  In the address line, paste the URL of your video (be sure that you do NOT have http:// in the address line twice!).  In the target line, choose “Open link in a new window.”  Then click  “Insert” and then “Save” and then “Publish.”  Your video is now embedded in your blog.

Inserting a link in a post…

Inserting a link into a post is easy!  First, highlight the word you want to be linked to the website.  Then, if you are in the ‘visual’ mode while typing your post, simply click on the icon that looks like a chain link and paste the URL (that’s the address) of the site to which you want to link the word.  For example, here’s anotherDove ad. (Target:  Open link in another window.)

If you are in HTML mode, simply highlight the word and click on the link button and paste the URL in the box. Need help? Leave me a comment!

July 31st is almost here!!!

Please don’t forget that all of your summer reading assignments are due by this Friday, July 31st. Try to have your assignments in the front office by at least 3:00 in the afternoon. (I cannot guarantee that anyone will be there later than that to collect your work.) Remember, there will be a 50 point deduction for each day late and no work will be accepted after Monday, August 3rd.

Just in case you need another copy of any of the reading assignments, look at the box.net widget on the bottom right side of this home page. All of the questions are there. Just click on the one you need and download it to your computer as a word document.

I’m looking forward to seeing all of you!

Just curious…

Just to satisfy my curiosity, let me know what you think of the blog so far. Have you found helpful information? Have you communicated with your peers? Have I answered any questions you specifically asked me this summer?

We will definitely be using the blog regularly during first semester. There will be regular assignments, some of which we will do during class time on the school computers, some of which will be homework. This is the first time I have used a blog for summer reading though and I would like to know if you found this particular tool interesting, helpful at all, fun, (insert your own adjective here)…

So, when you check the class blog between now and the first day of school, please leave me a comment here on this blog with this post. That way I will know who has actually looked at the blog and who has totally forgotten about it.

THANKS!!!!!

Whew! Where did the summer go?

Less than a month left before school starts. That seems almost impossible! I hope you all are having fun, getting plenty of rest, and completing your summer reading without too much hassle.

I really haven’t been ignoring you; my classes end next week and I have to write two 10-page papers, two smaller papers, and create two formal presentations before next Wednesday. AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

If you guys have any questions or need something explained, please, please post your questions so that your classmates and I might be able to help. I encourage you to go through each other’s posts and comments. There is a good possibility you might have your questions answered that way. I KNOW you will enjoy reading each other’s blogs!

Enjoy what’s left of your summer!

You can insert images in your posts!

When you are writing a post and you wish to insert an image, click on the Add media: “Add An Image” button. (It is the first one after ‘Upload/Insert.’) You may then choose an image already saved on your computer by browsing files, or you can link to an image on the internet if you have the URL of the image. The image will be placed in your post when you hit the “Insert into post” button. Then just hit “Publish.”

Although Wikipedia is not always necessarily a reliable source for your serious research, it is still a vast collection of information which can serve as a good starting point when trying to learn about a topic. Be sure you add the class blog in your links

Be sure you have the class blog in your links. Go to ‘My Dashboard’ then ‘Links’ then ‘Add New.’ Type “Class Blog” in the ‘Name’ box and type http://honeng11fall09.wordpress.com in the address box. Remember to click “Add Link” when you are finished. Now, go back to your blog and make sure the class blog shows up in your blogroll. If you do not have a blogroll, go to ‘My Dashboard’ and click on ‘Appearance’ then ‘Widgets.’ Choose “Links” and be sure to save the widget. Now, visit your blog home page again and the link to the class blog should be there. This is where you need to go to find assignments and other useful information. Let me know if you need any help!
